Balatonszentgyörgy is a place (község) and municipality in the Hungarian county Somogy. Balatonszentgyörgy has 1673 inhabitants (2001). The municipality is located southwest of Lake Balaton, 2 km away from the lake, between the river Zala and the highway M7. Nearby is the nature reserve Kis-Balaton, with a wide reed plateau, which is responsible for the water management of Lake Balaton.
An important sight is the Csillagvár (literally: Starburst). The hunting lodge of the count Festetics, built in the 1800s, is now a renowned museum, with scenes from the hussar life and the household on the land. Especially the architecture is interesting. The building houses a puppet exhibition in the basement.
Another interesting building is the restaurant Gulyas Csarda (literally: Csarda of the herd of cattle), with a set of longhorns on the roof as a landmark. Nearby you can sometimes see the long-horned water cattle grazing, accompanied by a shepherd. The Talpasház can not be missed. Every municipality has such a house in which a small local exhibition is held about life in that place in a (not yet so) distant past.
